As\u00ed lo indica un estudio realizado por investigadores de la Universidad de Uppsala, en Suecia.<\/p><p>El informe asegura que los capitanes y la tripulaci\u00f3n tienen una tasa de supervivencia significativamente mayor.<\/p><p>El desastre del Titanic, ocurrido hace 100 a\u00f1os, fue una rara excepci\u00f3n porque el capit\u00e1n amenaz\u00f3 con disparar a aquellos que desobedecieran, seg\u00fan el estudio realizado por los economistas Mikael Elinder y Oscar Erixson.<\/p><p>\u201cUna cosa para recordar del Titanic es que las mujeres sobrevivieron en mucha mayor medida que los hombres\u201d, explica Elinder a la BBC.<\/p><p>La regla de \u201cmujeres y ni\u00f1os, primero\u201d se ve ahora como la forma de comportamiento en emergencias. Y para los autores, el capit\u00e1n tiene el poder de obligar a que se cumplan las normas y que todos act\u00faen en consecuencia.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Hundirse con el barco<\/span><\/p><p>Hasta la idea de que los capitanes se hunden con el barco es cuestionada por el estudio. \u201cCasi la mitad de los capitanes sobrevivi\u00f3 en los desastres, eso a pesar de cientos de pasajeros muertos en cada uno de ellos\u201d, apunta Elinder.<\/p><p>La explicaci\u00f3n que encuentra es simple: \u201cquer\u00edan salvar su vida\u201d, y pone como ejemplo lo sucedido recientemente en la costa Concordia.<\/p><p>Los autores aseguran que sus hallazgos muestran que el comportamiento en situaciones reales de vida o muerte es mejor descrito por la expresi\u00f3n \u201cs\u00e1lvese quien pueda\u201d.<\/p><p>El estudio abarc\u00f3 desastres mar\u00edtimos a lo largo de tres siglos, que incluyen a unas 15.000 personas. Los autores dicen que los datos de 16 de los barcos estudiados nunca fueron analizados de esta forma anteriormente.<\/p><p>El primero fue el barco militar HMS Birkenhead el 26 de febrero de 1852, que seg\u00fan los expertos a menudo es visto como el suceso donde apareci\u00f3 la idea de salvar a mujeres y ni\u00f1os primero.<\/p><p>El Birkenhead transportaba alrededor de 20 familiares de soldados, adem\u00e1s de tropas. Hab\u00eda demasiado pocos botes salvavidas para todos a bordo, y cuando empez\u00f3 a hundirse, se dieron \u00f3rdenes para que mujeres y ni\u00f1os fueran salvados primero. Los 191 sobrevivientes incluyeron a todas las mujeres.<\/p><p>La cifra de muertos fue de 365.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Situaci\u00f3n l\u00edmite<\/span><\/p><p>Cuando el transatl\u00e1ntico SS Arctic se hundi\u00f3 en septiembre de 1854, a las mujeres y ni\u00f1os tambi\u00e9n se les orden\u00f3 ir a los botes primero. Pero la evacuaci\u00f3n fue desorganizada, y r\u00e1pidamente se llenaron con la tripulaci\u00f3n.<\/p><p>El capit\u00e1n amenaz\u00f3 con responder con violencia a la desobediencia, pero dud\u00f3 al hacer cumplir las \u00f3rdenes. La cifra total de muertos fue de 227, incluyendo a todas las mujeres y ni\u00f1os, y los 41 sobrevivientes eran mayormente miembros de la tripulaci\u00f3n.<\/p><p>Cuando el MS Estonia empez\u00f3 a hundirse en el B\u00e1ltico en 1994, se escor\u00f3 r\u00e1pidamente, causando p\u00e1nico a bordo. Eso complic\u00f3 la puesta a punto de los botes salvavidas, y la mayor\u00eda de los 852 que murieron quedaron atrapados en el barco. No se registr\u00f3 una orden de \u201cmujeres y ni\u00f1os primero\u201d. Y la evacuaci\u00f3n no se hizo en forma ordenada, dijo el informe. Hubo 137 sobrevivientes.<\/p><p>El an\u00e1lisis mostr\u00f3 que la diferencia por g\u00e9nero en las tasas de supervivencia en los desastres se ha achicado desde la Primera Guerra Mundial.<\/p><p>Los autores dicen que esto est\u00e1 relacionado con el estatus m\u00e1s alto que tienen las mujeres en la sociedad moderna.<\/p><p>Tambi\u00e9n se\u00f1alan que en desastres m\u00e1s recientes la gente muestra generalmente altruismo hacia los m\u00e1s vulnerables, como aquellos con discapacidades. Todos saben c\u00f3mo se debe actuar en una situaci\u00f3n l\u00edmite como las que se abordan en el estudio.<\/p><p>Pero nadie puede asegurar que en una situaci\u00f3n real actuar\u00e1 de tal o cual forma. El propio Elinder lo confiesa: Me gustar\u00eda pensar que salvar\u00eda al menos a mi familia, pero es muy dif\u00edcil saber exactamente c\u00f3mo se comportar\u00eda uno en estas situaciones.<\/p><p>Ya llamado \u201cPollo del Mar o gallinas a bordo\u201d, el<strong> capit\u00e1n Francesco Schettino<\/strong> cree en la frase \u201cLas mujeres y los ni\u00f1os duran\u201d, cuando se trata de desastres en el mar. Esto es particularmente cierto cuando \u00e9l causa el desastre en primer lugar.<\/p><p>Francesco tom\u00f3 el gigantesco crucero Costa Concordia en un alegre paseo por la costa oeste de Italia, lo pas\u00f3 por una roca afilada y rasg\u00f3 un corte de estilo tit\u00e1nico a trav\u00e9s de varias secciones del compartimento herm\u00e9tico. Aparentemente, quer\u00eda rozar la costa de una isla para saludar a algunas chicas.<\/p><p>En cambio, el barco se volc\u00f3 y ahog\u00f3 a algunos de los pasajeros. Las autoridades italianas no se divierten y han acusado al capit\u00e1n de muchos cr\u00edmenes. Por su parte, Francesco dice que tropez\u00f3 y cay\u00f3 en el bote salvavidas.<\/p><p>Pero los investigadores piensan que es extra\u00f1o, ya que llevaba su maleta, un oso de peluche y una botella
