The creators of the hit “Chicken Run” return ahora con una de piratas, mezclando la tradicional técnica “claymation” con el 3D.
¡Peter Lord, codirector de “Chicken Run” (2000), estrena “The Pirates!
The film narrates with a tone comical attempts of a rogue by defeating their rivals for the prize for the Pirate of the Year, a mission that leads to the protagonist and his henchmen to undertake a trip from the beaches of Blood Island to the cloudy streets of victorian London.
All this is possible thanks to “claymation,” the art of creating frame-by-frame animation using characters molded from materials such as plasticine, clay, or silicone.
“I hope that this art will always have its public,” said Lord. Perhaps the psychologists could explain it, but there is something in that technique that makes it charming.
Something similar happens with “The Muppets”. Are rag dolls with eyes, but if the illusion is well-made, you think that they are alive. And in a sense beautiful, he added.
The british study has been nominated nine times for the Oscar, and has won four of them.
Lord, 59 years old, a candidate for an Oscar twice for his animated shorts “Adam” (1992) and “Wat's Pig” (1996), he has based his career mostly in his role of producer, and his resume includes “Flushed Away” (2006) and “Wallace & Gromit in The Curse of The Were-Rabbit” (2005).
“I think we have done a movie honest,” said the director of Bristol, which has taken all these years to get back behind the camera because of a couple of projects not found financing.
The story of his new film is based on a series of books of british novelist Gideon Defoe, whose “sense of the comedy” attracted irretrievably Lord.
“The spirit of the books is an exaltation of joy and happiness, and to keep that feeling on the big screen was a big challenge,” said the filmmaker, who has had a budget of close to $60 million for a shoot that lasted more than three years.
This fascination seems to still be alive, and we hope to take advantage of that constant interest,” he mused.
