Official Fesacocur template or form for the prosecution of birds.

In ornamental poultry breeding, the judging form is the document used to evaluate each bird according to official standards.

What is a template?

Template or form of prosecution: What is it and what is it used for? Definition and purpose. These skills belong to the system adopted in the whole of Europe by the Entente European (EE), which means that they are the standard scores used in all poultry, whether commercial or artisan.

An evaluation form classic is organized in three basic categories:

Qualities, desires, flaws.

These categories provide accuracy and specificity for each bird, meant to guide both the breeder and the visitor who shows interest. In addition, Spain includes the category of “Presentation” in the template or spreadsheet.

On numerous occasions we have attended exhibitions of poultry, and often we have not been able to understand the information presented in the template or form of the bird. With this information, I believe that we will now be able to distinguish between them and understand them properly.

Distribution of grades available:

Score range

The range of scores comprises a total of seven scores;

  • Excellent (Exc.) with 97 points.
  • Featured (Des) with 96 points.
  • Very Good (MB), covering scores between 93 and 95.
  • Good (B) that includes scores of 92 and 91 points.
  • Regular (R) with 90 points.
  • Insufficient (Ins) with 0 points.
  • Without valuation (SV) because the bird is sick, for example.

In the chapter of qualities, you must list all of the positive characteristics that can present an animal. How to develop a critique in the spreadsheet can be considered an art, given the limited space available; the way of expressing something has a crucial relevance because it can influence the direction of the final result.

For an animal to receive the qualification “Excellent” not only to be free of defects and desires, but they must excel in all their features, standing out above the other copies.

It requires the signature of a second judge with experience to validate the score.

At the wish phase, the judge begins his evaluation or assessment of the animals.

A desire mild, still allowing you to grant the qualification of “Featured”; however, this desire must be kept to a minimum (as a peak slightly more rounded or a position a little lower).

If you identified more than a desire, an animal you may not obtain more than the rating of “Very Good” that is to say, between 95 and 93 points.

The final score of an animal depends on the severity or the number of wishes that the judge has observed.

The presence of a serious desire excludes the possibility of granting the rating of “outstanding” to the animal.

The qualification “Very good” this is the first in the system that allows the court to differentiate between the animals of superior quality within a collection in evaluation, using the range from 95 points (animals are very close to getting a status that is prominent, without reach) up to 93 points.

These are located on the third level of the evaluation template.
With the identification of a defect, the maximum rating of an animal is placed on 92 points, which results in an assessment of “Good”.

Also, this qualification is divided into two scores, 92 and 91 points, depending on if the judge perceives the animal as most similar to the evaluation of “very good” or less due to the severity or the number of defects identified.

Categories of imperfections

Basically, there are three categories of imperfections:

  • Common defects.
  • Severe defects.
  • Defects that result in the disqualification of the animal from the contest.

Let us analyze in detail the differences between the three categories:

When there is a defect in an ordinary animal, it can get a score of 91 or 92 points.

In the case of a severe defect, the only rating that may be assigned is that of "Regular," with a score of 90 points.

The third category of defect involves those failures that lead to the disqualification of the animal of the competition. This mainly includes deformations of anatomical limbs, bones, feathers, or other general features that may not be considered normal within the standard or pattern of the race being evaluated.

A judge must act fairly and methodically in the performance of their duties to ensure that the outcome of their work benefits both the enthusiasts and the breed.

Any breeder who has paid the fee to participate in the exhibition has the right to demand that their animals be judged adequate, clear, and accurate.

Before starting the evaluation of a collection, a good judge must review and consider the animals that have been assigned to detect trends or affinities. That is, animals that deviate from the norm in both directions, exemplary and outstanding, as well as those that are in the opposite end of the quality spectrum.
